This will be the last post before I start NaNoWriMo. My Aussie countdown tells me this is 1 day and 13 hours away! It’s getting super close.
I’m getting excited as well as nervous. How are you all coping? What techniques are you using to prepare yourself mentally as well as getting your story ready for NaNo?
~
What I am doing to prepare for NaNo:
- I got rid of the husband. (He has gone to India for a month – Medical Student) = Quiet house
- Got my roster changed to afternoon shifts so I can write in the morning or late at night.
- Got a plan for my novel.
- Spent ages stewing the novel (Which has really helped my novel construction skills)
- Read James Scott Bell’s Plot and Structure – Possibly the best novel writing book ever.
- Re-read the above book
- Changed my story structure and re plotted cursing my insane naivety all the way
- Read some great books to get me in the mood
- Told as many people as I can that I HAVE to write 50,000 words this November
- Waiting waiting waiting for November 1st to roll around.
I’m not waiting very patiently though – I Just want to start!

I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one with itchy fingers! I’ve outlined Parts 2 and 3 of my novel (I’m having issues with Part 1, and I’d rather go back to it once I know how the end comes together). I’ve also done a lot of brainstorming, and thinking about story structure, which is exciting.
I’m hoping that I can get a few hours in tomorrow of cleaning up my character list and place names, but right now I’m just bouncing around, watching the countdown clock.

Hey Lena,
ooh good luck with part one… It IS really hard waiting.
I’ve been trying to add you to my NaNo buddies list this morning, but NaNo site seems strangely unresponsive. I wonder if they are having problems with large numbers of hits or something. I would not be surprised.
anyway good luck with NaNo and keep in touch!

Any hints on how to get a non-medical student hubby out of the house
Great planning, I’ve done similar.
Hugs!!

Good on you Sarah, and good luck!
I have been tossing up whether or not to, and have decided not to. I already have two stories on the go and another is just not an option at the moment – though the voices tell me i could happen, i’m not letting it!
Good luck!

I am doing NaNo too–I’m nervous about tacking on one more thing to do each day, but also excited to work with a whole new cast of characters!
Good Luck Sarah!

Hi Sarah, you go girl! I like the “got rid of husband”… since I write thrillers, I took that the wrong way for a moment or two.
I am not “officially” doing NaNo, but I do have a cunning plan to try to get one of my “backburner” books finished in time for pre-Christmas Amazon sales. I’m not sure if I’ll be successful or not as it’s a crazy-short deadline, but, hey, it’s worth a try.
Blessings upon your goals!
Belinda
